Vision
is Blue Ridge Community College's comprehensive leadership development program to promote informed and committed civic volunteerism.
Programs are designed to help participants acquire both a fuller sense of the wide array of critical issues and the leadership skills necessary to motivate and engage others in collaborative efforts to resolve them.
Each program will incorporate training in specific leadership skills, which are integral to effective community leadership. The focus of leadership skills development will be in the context of the issues related to the individual topics.
|
Participants will gain insight into new skills and values of community leadership, including:
-
Inclusiveness: Learning to listen and include persons who look, think, and act differently.
-
Trusteeship: People who see the common good and make decisions with many perspectives in view.
-
Team Leadership: Fostering collaboration, consensus building and creative problem solving.
-
Vision: Moving from an understanding of the past and "how it's always been done" to acting on strengths and creating and acting on a shared community vision.
-
Change Agent: Learning to live with change, ambiguity and community diversity.
Vision is a series of nine day-long monthly programs that provide information about the culture, history and current issues. Presentations by local resource persons and lively discussions with community leaders will provide an enlightening and engaging environment for learning. An opening two-day retreat will establish a shared vision for learning how to build relationships of openness, trust and cooperation as community leaders.
