SBC can provide business assistance to existing nonprofits or clients wanting to set up a new nonprofit.
Nonprofits are a great way to support a worthwhile cause.

Not every nonprofit need to incorporate and apply for 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. To help you decide, listed below are advantages and drawbacks to nonprofit incorporation.

Advantages of incorporation of nonprofit
  1. No Taxes Eligible for state and federal exemptions from corporate income taxes and also save on local taxes.
  2. Ability To Receive Public And Private Donations Individual donors can claim personal federal income tax deductions for their donations and bequests will be exempt from federal estate taxes.
  3. Protection From Personal Liability Shields members of non-profit organizations from personal liability. Creditors can only go after corporate assets, not the personal assets of the people who manage, work for, or volunteer for your organization.
  4. Organizational Perpetuity Nonprofits continue to exist beyond the involvement of the people who start it or who have managed it. This is attractive to donors who want to fund a cause over the long term.
  5. Employee Benefits Being a corporation opens the door for employee benefits such as group life insurance, health insurance, a pension plan, etc.
  6. Legitimacy to Donors
  7. Lower Postal Rates - Third-class Bulk Mailing
  8. Lower Advertising Rates Ability to air free radio and television public service announcements (PSA's).
Disadvantages of incorporation of nonprofit
  1. Increased paperwork
  2. Time, energy and expense to comply with regulatory demands
  3. Cost to incorporate
  4. Restrictions on political campaigning
  5. Restrictions on compensation for Executives and Board members
  6. When nonprofit closes, its assets must go to another nonprofit

If the benefits of becoming a nonprofit corporation
outweigh the disadvantages, you may be ready to move ahead.

SBC can assist you with starting or growing a nonprofit.
