Nurse Aide I
The Nursing Aide I course prepares graduates to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for the elderly and other adults. Emphasis is on the process of aging, including mental, social and physical needs of the elderly: patients' rights, nutrition management, disease/disorders, human body structure and function, etc. The course is composed of 176 hours including 92 classroom/lab hours, includes CPR certification and 84 clinical hours. Must go to an Information Session and take a reading test(TABE) with a minimum 9th grade reading level prior to registration.
A Mandatory 8 hour orientation class will be held prior to first day of Nurse Aide class. A student will register for this class at registration. For more information about Orientation class call Joblink at828-694-17
Nurse Aide II
This course includes 192 class hours with a minimum of 96 hours classroom/lab and 96 hours practical experience. The course teaches complex skills such as oxygen therapy, urinary catheterization, and nasogastric and gastrostomy feeding procedures.
Nurse Aide III
This refresher course is designed for individuals who have had a previous listing on a Nurse Aide Registry, or are coming from other states wishing to practice in North Carolina. Upon successful completion of this course individuals will receive documentation for application for the Nurse Aide Competency Testing.
Medication Aide
This course is designed to meet the training requirements for becoming qualified to be a Medication Aide. The course will cover the six rights of medication administration for non-licensed personnel. Topics will include medication administration via the oral, terminology, and legal implications. Upon completion, students should be able to take the competency exam and demonstrate skills necessary . You must have a current CNA I license to be enrolled in the class.
Gerontology
Healthy and Integrative Aging: Part I and Part II (Hybrid online, meets two Saturdays, remainder online ).
These courses are a two part series for introduction to the field of gerontology from the holistic perspective of human development and healthy/integrative aging.
Gerontology: A Holistic Approach
This course is designed to teach the psychological,social, and physical aspects of normal aging ,including dementia,palliative/hospice care.
