The Defensive Driving Courses, DDC-4 (4 hour), Alive at 25 (4 hour), and DDC-ADD (8 hour), have been implemented as a means to obtain point reduction for current citations issued for minor traffic violations in Henderson and Transylvania Counties or by Court referral. This option is available to participants one time in a three-year period or as authorized by the court.

Blue Ridge Community College offers this program in conjunction with the District Attorney of the 29B Judicial District and the Safety and Health Council of North Carolina. Other cited individuals may take the course at BRCC if he/she has permission from the District Attorney of the county where the traffic citation was received.

The DDC-4 course is scheduled each week on Thursdays 6:00 to 10:00 pm and Saturdays 9:00 am to 1:00 pm as well as 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at BRCC Henderson County campus. Alive at 25, designed for drivers ages 16 to 25, is scheduled on the first Saturday of each month from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. The Spanish DDC-4 course is also scheduled once a month on a Saturday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.

Authorization from the District Attorney is required to participate in the DDC-ADD course. The DDC-ADD course is scheduled every Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at Henderson County campus.

Individuals may participate in these classes for personal enrichment or as a work requirement.

The fee for DDC-4 and Alive at 25 courses is $65. The DDC-ADD course fee is $100.. Preregistration and student scheduling of the course date is required prior to attending.
