The Blue Ridge Center for Lifelong Learning was established by Blue Ridge Community College in January of 1991. In this member-directed organization, persons with diverse backgrounds come together to share a common interest in learning in an environment of sharing and fellowship. Any person having an interest in the mission and activities of this organization can become a lifetime member for a one-time $40 fee. Members can attend a variety of course offerings for a nominal fee and may also participate in travel opportunities. The College supports the Center by providing classroom and office space as well as administrative services.
Other programs include Adventures for a Day offering short trips to places like the BMW plant in South Carolina, local waterfalls, theaters in North Carolina and nearby states, museums, behind-the-scenes tours at city and county facilities, as well as canoeing, rafting, and picnics.
Also the annual retreat to Wildacres Retreat Center is a pleasure for many who enjoy this mountaintop haven near Little Switzerland that offers mountain views, a peaceful environment and good food. The week is filled with programs by interesting and knowledgeable presenters as well as entertainers sharing their talent in a variety of genres.
