Learning for Work:
Courses and programs of study in our Learning for Work section focus on specific skill development for the workplace. These include
Basic Law Enforcement Training, Business Skills, Computer Skill Enhancement, Emergency Medical Services, Environmental Science and Safety, Fire and Rescue, Manufacturing, Nurse Aide
and a variety of licensures and certifications.
Our Division works closely with local Economic Developers to assure that new and expanding businesses have the training resources they need to grow successfully. As our local economy recovers, the area is experiencing a tremendous growth in manufacturing. Our
Customized Training Program
provides pre- and post-hire training to support these growing companies. With input from local manufacturers, we have designed an Advanced Manufacturing Certification Program to teach the skills necessary to work in today's advanced manufacturing settings and to create a labor pool of qualified candidates for companies to access.
If you are unemployed, or under-employed, our
Human Resources Development program (HRD)
offers training in essential workplace skills including job search, resume writing, interviewing, networking, team work and communication skills. Visit our HRD Employability Lab located in the
Henderson County JobLink Career Center
to earn your North Carolina Career Readiness Certificate, now required by many local businesses. JobLink staff can provide career planning, funding for further training or referral to specific jobs. The local recovering economy has produced many job openings, particularly in manufacturing.
Our
Small Business Center(SBC)
is a great resource for those who are contemplating opening a small business. SBC supports the development of new businesses and the growth of existing businesses through counseling, training information and referral. The
Blue Ridge Innovation Network (BRIN)
, a small business incubator located on the Transylvania Campus, offers technical assistance and office space to new entrepreneurial start-ups.
