Henderson County Registration:
Registration for these programs is done in-person Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Henderson County Campus 180 W. Campus Dr. Flat Rock, NC in the Continuing Education Building, Room 123. To contact the program assistant call (828) 694-1750.

Nurse Aide (CNA I) Orientation Course

The required Nurse Aide Orientation course is offered at the Blue Ridge Community College Henderson County Campus in Flat Rock and at the Blue Ridge Community College Transylvania County Campus in Brevard. This eight-hour course is offered as a full-day 8 a.m to 5 p.m. session or as two evening sessions from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Pre-registration is required. Registration is done in person in the NCWorks office, Continuing Education Building, Room 123.

Bring your driver's license or picture ID.

  • Ceil Blue Scrubs: $30 (approx.)
  • Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening: $55 (approx.—first day of class)
  • Gait Belt: $14 (approx.— needed for clinical)

Medical Prerequisite

Proof of immunity can be demonstrated with an official vaccination record or titer results.
Before enrolling in the program, students must show proof of immunity to the following:

  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus (Booster required every 10 years)
  • Pertussis
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella (2 doses)
  • Hepatitis B (Proof of first dose at time of registration)
  • Tuberculosis
    • This can be demonstrated with a 2-Step TB Skin Test (Test #1 and Test #2 placement must be separated by at least one week) or with a T-Spot blood test
  • Influenza (if any part of the course will be held between Oct 1 – April 1)

If you have questions about medical prerequisites, please call Rachel Adams at (828) 694-4759.  A Medical Form is available for your convenience to use as a check-list.  The Health Department can assist with providing documentation and/or the required immunizations.

Registration Procedures for Nurse Aide I

1. The student must complete a minimum 9th grade reading on a TABE reading test or Bronze level or higher on CRC.
2. Provide proof of medical requirements (see medical form).
3. Have valid ID’S and all names must match.

Required to register:

  • signed Social Security card (cannot be laminated) or letter from SS Office
  • current driver’s license or government-issued picture ID

4. The student must attend an 8-hour orientation class prior to registering for NA I.
5. Submit complete registration form and $231.30 in registration fees, payable to Blue Ridge Community College.

These fees cannot be transferable to another course. If a student officially withdraws from the course before the 10% point, 75% of the registration fee can be refunded.

6. Financial Application forms can be picked up and returned at the Continuing Education office (with two letters of recommendation) by application schedule deadline.

7. Textbook and ID Tag are required for the first class session.

These fees cannot be transferable to another course. If a student officially withdraws from the course before the 10% point, 75% of the registration fee can be refunded.

Medication Aide Course
Registration Form

The course meets the training requirements needed to become a qualified Medication Aide. The course covers the administration of oral medication and the corresponding medical terminology. Students learn the Six Rights of medication administration for non-licensed personnel, as well as the legal implications involved. 

Upon completion, students are prepared to sit for the competency exam and demonstrate the necessary skills.

To register, students must be on the North Carolina registry with a current Nurse Aide I license.

Registration:
Complete and return registration form with your $135.00 registration fee, $1.30 accident insurance, $5.00 IT Fee and $20.00 supply fee, ($161.30 total), payable to Blue Ridge Community College. Registrations are held at the Henderson County campus only on scheduled registrations dates and must be done by person taking the class. These fees are non-transferable to another course. If a student officially withdraws from the course before the 10% point, 75% of the registration fee can be refunded. Please note this does not include the accident insurance fee, or supply fee.

For verification purposes, when registering, student must present necessary ID, paperwork and payment. If the College closes early due to weather or other circumstances, call 694-1700 for information. Financial Application forms must be picked up at the Continuing Education Office and returned to the Continuing Education Office with two letters of recommendation, by application schedule deadline.

A high school diploma or GED is required (transcripts will be accepted.) A current Driver’s License and signed Social Security card (with names matching), and current Nurse Aide Registry listing are required at registration. You must be a current licensed Nurse Aide I to be on the registry, and to be employed as a Medication Aide. Book fee is $14.00 and available in the BRCC bookstore.

This refresher course is designed for individuals who have had a previous listing on a state Nurse Aide Registry that has not been expired for greater than 3 years and wish to recertify. Upon successful completion of this course you will receive documentation for how to apply for the State Nurse Aide Competency Testing.

EKG Technician/Monitor

This course is designed and approved to prepare the student to become a certified EKG and Technician/Monitor. This course will cover the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of EKG and dysrhythmia recognition to prepare the student to sit for the national certification exam through classroom, lecture and simulated lab.  CET-Certified EKG Technician.
