Blue Ridge Community College strives to offer comprehensive service to those students who access course delivery online. Curriculum distance learning students are encouraged to access Student Services via the college Website or by calling Student Services at (828) 694-1800 for individualized assistance.

  Technical Support for Distance Learners  
  1. The Catalog is available on the Website: Blue RIdge Catalog.  
WebAdvisor Icon 2. Course schedules are available on the college Website under WebAdvisor [ How To Tutorial ].  
  3.  Admissions applications may be submitted online or printed and mailed to the Registrar's office.
Other forms available online include Course Registration for non-degree seeking students and
Interpreter Education (ASL) students, Returning Student/Change of Program , Data
Change/Address Change, Blue RIdge Transcript Request, Application for Graduation, Transcript
Request (from other schools), and Signature Card.  Please see tutorial for Registering online in Web Advisor .
 
  4. Transcripts of other college's credits will be evaluated by the Student Services Counselor assigned
to the student's declared program area. Official transcripts must be received from the originating
college in a sealed envelope. Written notification of credits transferred will be mailed to the
applicant by the Registrar's office. Please see the tutorial for viewing your Transcripts through WebAdvisor.
 
5. Placement testing may be arranged by contacting Student Services at (828) 694-1800. If testing is
required for the program of study, arrangements can usually be made to complete the requirement
at a location convenient to the student if requested a minimum of two weeks prior to the beginning
of the semester. Please see the tutorial for viewing your Placement test scores in WebAdvisor.
 
  6. Academic advising is provided via the faculty advisor assigned by the registrar's office. Students
will be notified by mail as to who their faculty advisor is and how to reach them. Non-degree
seeking and distance Interpreter Education students should follow closely the online step-by-step
registration
instructions located under Distance Learners on the college Website.
 
7. Textbooks may be ordered online or by telephoning the campus bookstore which will include a
small charge for shipping. Major credit cards are accepted. NOTE: Returns can be processed with
UNOPENED books and must be accompanied with the original receipt mailed with the book.
 
  8. Dropping classes may be accomplished by emailing the instructor, who will then notify the
Registrar's office.
 
9. Financial Aid applications for Federal Pell Grants are available on the Internet at www.fafsa.com .
Scholarship applications are available in the spring by contacting the Financial Aid clerk at (828)
694-1816, or via email at (Kathy Helms email).
 
  10. Veteran's services are handled by the Assistant Financial Aid Director by calling (828) 694-1815
or email at (Julia Dennis email). Online information for Financial Aid is available on the Blue Ridge website.
 
  11. Counseling services and referral can be accessed by contacting our Student Services receptionist
at 828-694-1800. Counselors are available for distance learning students as they are for students
attending courses on campus.
 
12. Disability Services are provided for those with disabilities as defined by the Americans with
Disabilities Act and may be requested by contacting the Disability Services Office at (828) 694-1813, or email at (Maggie Faulkner email).

  13. In cases of student grievance or disciplinary matters, where it is impractical for a distance
education student to appear in person to be heard, to afford the student due process and expedient
resolve of issues, special accommodations may be made such as. written statements, telephone
conferences, electronic mail, video tape live video, or similar means of communication. Student
policies are located in the Student Handbook
 
  14. JobLink Career Center services are also available to Blue Ridge's distance learning students. Services include assistance with career planning, job placement, and job seeking skills such as resume writing and interviewing. Contact the JobLink Customer Service Consultant at (828) 694-1755 or by email at (Dan Harris email) for further information.  
  15. Blue Ridge transcripts will be mailed the following business day after a request is received. The
College accepts written, faxed or scanned requests. A transcript request form is available on the
College's website.
 
 

16. Star Center services are available to Blue Ridge's distance learning students.  Instructors provide academic assistance to help students succeed in curriculum, developmental, continuing education and basic skills classes.
