Responsibilities for Faculty:

  • Works with curriculum and continuing education faculty to set up and deliver online education. (Contact Alice for online training materials, course shells and access to VLC courses.)

  • Chairs the Distance Learning Standing Committee

  • Writes grants for professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.

  • Creates faculty training opportunities.  See the Insider for a listing of current workshops .

  • Writes system level Service Agreements for delivering ITV and online courses or programs to sister community colleges and coordinates delivery with Media Services.

  • Supervises the Open Lab in TEDC 102 and work-study students in the lab.

  • Supervises Learning Technologies Support staff (below).  

Responsibilities for Students:

  • Assists with online and email account set up and maintenance via phone support and online tutorials .

  • Conducts face to face Moodle Orientations
  • Delivers phone and in-person support for technical issues with Moodle (online platform)
  • Available by request of faculty for in class presentations and/or games regarding online education

  • Hires and supervises Work-Study students for the Open Lab in TEDC 102

  • Provides services that support College faculty in the quality design, development and delivery of online courses.
  • Assists faculty to translate learning outcomes into appropriate learning activities and assessments.
  • Creates written and interactive tutorials and reference materials for a wide variety of technologies.
  • Collaborates directly with the Director for Leaning Technologies, Deans and faculty to manage observations of and quality for online courses.
  • Assists in selection, testing and implementation of Moodle Modules and Blocks.

Responsibilities for Students:

  • Provides troubleshooting support for online students for basic technical Moodle support.
  • Assists with in person and online Moodle Orientations and written tutorials.

  • Develops page templates in and maintains the OmniUpdate content management system

  • Assures that college websites meet usability, established standards, and ADA requirements

  • Builds and maintains mySQL databases to provide dynamic content for the college's website.

  • Develops web applications to extract data from mySQL databases for use on college websites using PHP

  • Consults with departments on designing and developing web content.


  • Administers and maintains Resource25 back-end database and 25Live Event Management System.

  • Performs duties related to Moodle online learning platform including platform maintenance

Responsibilities for Students:

  • Provide support for students taking online course and hybrid courses especially troubleshooting log-in and connectivity issues

" NEW Student Guide to Moodle 2 " can be downloaded by right clicking the link and saving to your computer, and the Open Computer lab in TEDC 102 (Flat Rock) is available with student lab monitors experienced in using Moodle.  
A great deal of information concerning taking distance learning classes is located on the Blue Ridge Website under Distance Learners - New to Distance Learning . In particular, please see the Tutorials to set up your Blue Ridge e-mail (Webmail@Google), and your online course in Moodle accounts. You must FIRST set up your Moodle account, then you will be able to access Webmail.  If you do not know your account login and password information, please go to this tutorial . Be sure to check your BRCC email account for official information from Blue Ridge Community College
