ICS 300 (16 hours)
Developed by the Secretary of Homeland Security, the National Incident Management System integrates effective practices in emergency response into a comprehensive national framework for incident management. The NIMS will enable responders at all levels to work together more effectively and efficiently to manage incidents no matter the cause, size or complexity, including catastrophic acts of terrorism and disasters. State and local agencies and organizations must adopt the NIMS to be eligible for federal preparedness assistance by FY 2005. In this course the student will cover the organizational structure and how it is staffed. ICS positions and their responsibilities will be discussed and the information flow in the organization. Organizational development and staffing are of primary concerns. Implementing and controlling resources to the incident will also be covered. Upon completion, students should be able to implement and operate within the National Incident Management System (NIMS). This class will meet Saturday from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., and Sunday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
