Brevard Couple Remembers Son
through College Scholarship

Blue Ridge Community College student Daniel Furr was only 19 when he died unexpectedly in 2008. But family and friends are hoping that his name will live on through the J. Daniel Furr Memorial Scholarship recently established at Blue Ridge Community College. At the time of Daniel’s death, he had completed coursework at the Transylvania County Campus and was anticipating enrolling at Western Carolina University. 

For 2013-2014, fifteen $700 scholarships are being awarded to full-time students with financial need who are enrolled in degree programs (grade point average of 3.0 or above) at Blue Ridge Community College. Recipients for this scholarship must also be Transylvania County residents, citizens of the United States of America, and born after 1987. Finally, each recipient must be willing to sign a Pledge of Honor agreeing to abstain from using alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs during the time period that he or she is receiving a scholarship.
