Brevard Couple Remembers Son
through College Scholarship

Daniel Furr

Blue Ridge Community College student Daniel Furr was only 19 when he died unexpectedly in 2008. But family and friends are hoping that his name will live on through the J. Daniel Furr Memorial Scholarship recently established at Blue Ridge Community College. At the time of Daniel’s death, he had completed coursework at the Transylvania County Campus and was anticipating enrolling at Western Carolina University.

Eleven $500 scholarships will be awarded in 2011-2012 to full-time students with financial need who are enrolled in degree programs (grade point average of 3.0 or above) at Blue Ridge Community College. Recipients must also be Transylvania County residents, citizens of the United States of America, and born after 1987. Finally, each recipient must be willing to sign a Pledge of Honor agreeing to abstain from using alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs during the time period that he or she is receiving this scholarship.

“We have established the J. Daniel Furr Memorial Scholarship through Blue Ridge Community College Educational Foundation to honor the memory of our son Daniel, who passed away on December 27, 2008,” said Daniel’s parents Joseph and Sandra Furr. “The scholarship will provide resources for Brevard-area college students in Daniel’s generation who are endeavoring to further their education as full-time students in a degree-seeking curriculum.”

Blue Ridge Community College Educational Foundation accepts donations made to honor an event or an individual. A gift may honor a wedding anniversary, birthday, religious celebration, or other occasion. This is a loving tribute to the honoree. A memorial gift is an enduring remembrance of love for the family of the deceased.

The Foundation sends a thank you card to the donor and a card to the honoree or family member regarding the gift. The amount contributed is kept confidential. You may mail your check to the Foundation office with details, or call us for more information.
