Resources and Services Available
Advertising
All College advertisements (except for personnel recruitment ads placed by Human Resources) must be approved by the Director of Public Relations before publication. Ads are usually designed by the Public Relations Office staff and should be requested using the Marketing and Public Relations Service Request Form three (3) weeks in advance of the date the advertisement should appear.
News Releases and Public Service Announcements
The College's director of public relations prepares and distributes news releases to local news media. News releases are also posted on the College Web site for access by the media and public. Requests for news releases should be made using the Marketing and Public Relations Service Request Form four (4) weeks in advance of the event or program promotion. For optimal coverage, submit 6 to 8 weeks in advance so Public Relations staff can submit to monthly publications and regional publications.
Brochures, Post Cards, and Other Publications
Department directors are responsible for ensuring that brochures and other publications produced by their departments contain accurate information, are competently written and designed, properly use the college logo and accessibility notices, and comply with accreditation standards and federal laws.
Final layout for college publications is usually done by the Public Relations Office and should be requested using the Marketing and Public Relations Service Request Form at least four (4) weeks in advance of the date the publication is needed.
Media Relations
In accordance with Procedure 2.27.1, contact with news media must be coordinated by the President. Contact includes responding to inquiries from media, pitching ideas to media, issuing news releases, and releasing records. For this purpose, the President's designees are the Director of Public Relations and/or the Chief Institutional Advancement Officer.
In order to ensure a professional relationship with the media, due diligence must be taken to ensure that information originating from the College is accurate, complete, reflects the official position of the organization and is released to the media in a timely manner.
If you are contacted by the media, please contact the Director of Public Relations or the Chief Institutional Advancement Officer who will handle the inquiry and, if necessary, set up a time for the reporter to interview you other College representative.
