(Flat Rock-September 21, 2017) At Monday’s meeting of the Blue Ridge Community College Board of Trustees, special recognition was given to past board chair John C. McCormick, Jr.

Current Board Chair Chip Gould arranged for the special presentation to John McCormick in honor of his outstanding leadership as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. McCormick served as chair of the board from 2007 to 2017 and a member since 1996. He led the recent national search for the fourth president of the College. He was also recognized for his leadership roles with Blue Ridge Community College Educational Board of Directors as a member for 21 years. He established the John C. McCormick, Jr., Endowment Fund in 2010. Mr. McCormick continues to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees and the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

“John has been a dedicated, steadfast, and loyal public servant for more than 20 years for Blue Ridge Community College,” said Chip Gould. “His leadership and vision have, in no doubt, advanced the mission of the College by leaps and bounds. We are fortunate he will continue to serve with us on the Board as we fulfill our important responsibilities and duties”

Each community college in North Carolina is governed by a volunteer board of trustees, with specific duties defined by state law. Among their responsibilities, trustees establish policies for the college to follow, approve the college’s budget each year, and serve as advocates for the college. Blue Ridge Community College trustees are appointed by the Governor of North Carolina, Henderson County Board of Commissioners, Transylvania County Board of Commissioners, and Henderson County Board of Public Education.
