High School Student - Dual/Concurrent Enrollment
The Dual Enrollment program allows high school students to take classes at Blue Ridge while they are still in high school. These classes earn college credit, so students can either get a head start on programs offered at Blue Ridge, or take classes that transfer to a four-year institution.
It is possible that these classes may count toward high school credit. Students should check with their high school counselor to confirm whether or not the class will count for high school credit.
For dual enrollment, high school students:
-
Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
-
Are NOT allowed to take "developmental courses"; in other words, those listed in the Blue Ridge catalog with a course number less than "100" (such as ENG 090, or MAT 060).
-
May enroll in any college level course for which they meet the prerequisite(s).
-
Are EXEMPT from tuition if the student is enrolled at least half time at the high school (a minimum of two classes per semester on the block calendar). Students must pay fees and insurance (usually under $30) and purchase their books/supplies (costs are variable).
THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT ADMISSION TO BLUE RIDGE:
-
Application/Permission Form for Admission
- - Please complete the form and return it to your Guidance Office. The form requires signatures of the high school student, parent, and high school principal.
-
Blue Ridge Placement Testing
- Placement testing will be required if you choose to take a course that has an English or Math prerequisite. Acceptable SAT or ACT scores may exempt you from testing.

Upon receiving this "Inspection Verification Certificate" submit a photo-copy to the Blue Ridge Registrar's Office.
-
