To be eligible for most types of financial aid, a student must be

  • a US citizen or eligible non-citizen;
  • enrolled in at least one semester hour;
  • in an eligible program;
  • a high school/GED graduate; and
  • degree seeking

Students  will not be awarded any aid if they are in default on a government loan or owes a refund  on any federal grant.  Students also cannot receive financial aid from two or more colleges at the same time.  Any student with a Bachelor's degree is ineligible for federal grants and state grants.  They may be eligible for Federal Work Study and/or Federal Loans.

Most awards are based on financial need.  Blue Ridge Community College relies primarily on the "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA) for need analysis.

The Federal Pell Grant will be available to all eligible students who meet federal application deadlines and guidelines.

Federal Work Study (FWS) and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) funds are limited.  An effort will be made to provide FWS and FSEOG assistance to all eligible students.  Where demand exceeds available monies, however, priority will be given to those students with the greatest financial need whose aid applications are complete by the May 1 priority deadline.
