FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT COLLEGE TRANSFER:

How do I become a College Transfer student?
You can apply online (click here) or you can download the application for admission to print and mail, or you can come into the Student Services division and an Admissions Counselor will be happy to help you.

Is it true I can transfer as a junior to a four-year institution if I graduate with an A.A. or A.S. degree?
Students who meet all other admissions requirements for North Carolina state universities (and a number of private colleges and universities) fall under the NC Articulation Agreement for Community College Students. In other words, admitted students who have completed their Associate in Arts (A.A.) or Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees are to be considered juniors.

Do I have to finish my Associate's degree before I can transfer?
Students are not required to complete the Associate in Arts (A.A.) or Associate in Science (A.S.) degree before they can transfer. We do recommend that College Transfer students at least complete the 44-hr. General Education Core portion of the either degree, which may be accomplished easily through the Transfer Core Diploma. This portion of the A.A. or A.S degree, with a grade of "C" or better in each course, satisfies general education requirements at senior institutions in North Carolina University System institutions after acceptance at the four-year university. However, many Blue Ridge graduates have found greater success when they transfer to four-year institutions than their non-finishing counterparts, including a higher GPA.

What if I want to take courses that are not part of the plan of study?
Blue Ridge students are welcomed to enroll in courses other than those listed on the plan of study. Keep in mind, however, that these courses may not transfer to other institutions and may not count toward the number of credit hours required to complete the Associate's degree. As well, if a student is receiving Federal Financial Aid, these other courses may not qualify as those courses for which Federal student aid will pay. Students should consult their Counselor, their Advisor, and the Financial Aid Office.

Is there financial aid available for College Transfer program students?
The College Transfer degree programs are among those which are eligible programs for aid. For more information, please view the Financial Aid page or contact a Financial Aid Officer in the Student Services Division.

Can I get transfer credit for classes I have taken at other colleges or community colleges?
Students should arrange to have official transcripts from other colleges or community colleges they have attended sent to the Blue Ridge Community College. There they will be evaluated for any applicable transfer credit.  SEE THE TRANSFER TO BLUE RIDGE PAGE FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION.
