Taking just a course or two
If you are a student at another college and would like to come to Blue Ridge just to take a course or two to transfer back to your college, please choose "Special Credit - Non-degree Seeking" as your program when filling out the General Admissions Application form.
PLEASE NOTE: Many courses have prerequisites. Make sure that you have your transcript from your current college sent to the registrar's office so it can be evaluated for any prerequisites you may have met.
If you have not completed any college level math and/or college level English courses and wish to take a math or English course, you will have to take Pre-Enrollment Placement Testing to determine eligibility.

2. HAVE YOUR HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS OR GED TEST RESULTS, AND ANY COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS SENT TO BLUE RIDGE
Transcript Request Forms make it easier to for you to request official transcripts from other schools. Again, Blue Ridge must have your high school, GED, or Adult High School transcripts. If you have been to another college and would like transcripts evaluated for transfer credit, send a Transcript Request Form to your college(s). You may also download the Transcript Request Form.
NOTE: If you decide to pick up your transcript(s) in person and bring it to the college, PLEASE make SURE it is in a SEALED envelope from the high school, or Board of Education or any other college. Blue Ridge cannot accept "opened" transcripts as "official" for your records. Also, many schools charge a small fee for the transcript and will not release it until the fee is paid. You will probably save time by contacting the school to determine the fee charged and including that amount with your request for transcript.
3. TAKE THE PLACEMENT TEST
It is important that students have certain basic skills in English, reading, and mathematics. Since these skills are vital to your successful completion of college level course work, you will have to demonstrate proficiencies in English, reading, and mathematics. Your proficiencies in these areas are based on assessment test scores or completion of recommended classes. Therefore, placement testing is required of all students attending Blue Ridge.
However, students may waive the placement testing requirements under the following conditions:
1. Documentation of acceptable SAT or ACT scores: To be enrolled directly into first-level curriculum English or math courses, a student must have a minimum score of 500 on the applicable (critical reading verbal or mathematics) portion of the SAT, or a minimum of 21 on ACT English, or a minimum of 20 on ACT math. SAT and ACT examinations must have been taken within the preceding three years.
2. Results of ACCUPLACER tests taken at another institution within the preceding three years and that meet the BRCC cutoff scores will waive placement testing.
3. The computer skills portion of the placement test will be waived for students who have completed Computer Applications I at high school with a grade of “C” or better.
4. Transfer credit (grade C or better) received from a regionally accredited institution for first-level curriculum English, math or computer courses will be accepted in lieu of placement testing. Development level courses may be considered for transfer credit if taken at a North Carolina Community College within the last three years. The student must submit an official transcript to receive transfer credit and to officially waive the need for placement testing. A maximum of 50% of the Total Semester Credit Hours in any program will be accepted in transfer.
Proficiency in English and mathematics may also be demonstrated by AP (Advanced Placement Program) or CLEP (College Level Examination Program) scores (see Transfer Credit below). Check with the Student Services Division for details or see the information below under "Other Transfer Credits."
To schedule your placement test at the Henderson County Campus you can come to the Student Services Division in the Sink Building or call (828) 694-1800. At the Transylvania County Campus, please call the Student Servcies Division at (828) 883-2520 or (828) 694-1900 to schedule your test.

OTHER THINGS TO DO:
1. Ask about Financial Aid
Students interested in financial aid, scholarships or veterans benefits should visit or call the campus Financial Aid Office as soon as possible. Many Blue Ridge students receive financial aid while in school. You will find a Free Application for Federal Student Aid along with instructions and Financial Aid Brochures in the Admissions Office. Blue Ridge also offers many scholarships. Check with Student Services or the Financial Aid Officer if you have questions, or click on the link above for more information. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. See your Academic Advisor
We view student advisement as one of our most important functions. Each student is assigned a faculty advisor who is usually a faculty member from the curriculum in which the student is enrolled. Advisors assist students in selecting and scheduling appropriate classes and developing future academic and career plans. Advisors may also refer students to other available campus resources. Students are required to meet with their Academic Advisor each semester for assistance in completing the registration form. Advisors' office hours are posted on their office doors.
It is important that students realize that it is ultimately their responsibility to familiarize themselves with specific course and program requirements so that they may complete their goals while enrolled at the College. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Complete enrollment
You may enroll for courses by mail or at either the Henderson County Campus or the Transylvania County Campus. New students in degree seeking programs must first see their Academic Advisor to plan their schedule and register for their classes. If you don't know the name or the contact information for your Advisor, please contact the Student Services Division at 828-694-1800 (Henderson County Campus) or 828-883-2520 (Transylvania County Campus). Non-degree Seeking and Special Credit students, only, may complete the On-line Course Enrollment form. Click HERE for the Online Forms page. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Take care of fee payments.
To complete enrollment, you must pay your tuition and fees before attending classes. You can pay by cash, check, money order, MasterCard, or Visa. Failure to meet the tuition and fee payment deadlines will result in you being dropped from classes without notification. Click HERE for more information about Tuition and Fees. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Get the things you need.
Books and supplies are available at the campus bookstore. Check with your instructors for any additional things you will need. Click HERE for the link to the Bookstore. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Attend class
Be sure to attend the first class session for each class you have enrolled in. Instructors often provide vital information for how you can succeed in this class session.
About Transfer Credits

Click HERE for the Online Forms page where you can find a transcript request form.
