Blue Ridge Community College has developed four new short-term courses designed to provide students with the critical knowledge, competencies and skills in high demand for advanced manufacturing and other employers in Henderson County, Transylvania County and throughout the region.
The four courses include Machining Fundamentals; Industrial Maintenance; Certified Logistics Technician; and Non-Destructive Testing QA/QC. Each of the courses take place on Blue Ridge’s Henderson County Campus and cost between $230 – $306 plus the cost of any required texts and materials.
All four courses qualify for GEER scholarships to help cover the overall cost. To apply for the GEER scholarship, visit blueridge.edu/geer.
Machining Fundamentals meets May 3 – Aug. 19 (except for May 31 and July 5), Monday through Thursday from 5 – 9 p.m. Industrial Maintenance meets May 3 – July 28 (except May 31 and July 5), Monday through Thursday from 5 – 9 p.m. Certified Logistics Technician meets June 1 – July 28, Monday through Thursday evenings with the specific time to be determined. Non-Destructive Testing QA/QC meets Aug. 24 – Dec. 16 (except Nov. 11 and Thanksgiving Week), Tuesday through Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m.
Three of the courses (Machining Fundamentals, Industrial Maintenance and Non-Destructive Testing QA/QC) were endorsed by the new regional employer Pratt & Whitney, a world leader in design, manufacturing and service of aircraft engines. Successful completion of one or more of the endorsed courses provides a student with a waiver for a 32-hour pre-employment assessment required by Pratt & Whitney, and gives students a guaranteed interview providing that pre-screening of their application is complete.
