FLAT ROCK, N.C. – Shania Nunez, a Blue Ridge criminal justice and criminology (CJC) student, has received the 2022 Annual Scholarship from the North Carolina Law Enforcement Women’s Association (NCLEWA). The award was presented by Deputy Marsha Williams of the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office during the NCLEWA’s Sept. 8 banquet in Flat Rock.

Nunez’s goal is to become a juvenile probation officer so she can help young people avoid difficulties and find success.

“I want to help troubled youths to get what they need to stay on the right path and accomplish something in life,” she said.

Blue Ridge instructor Elaine Thompson praised Nunez for her perseverance and grit while pursuing her education.

“Like many students at Blue Ridge Community College, Shania attends classes while working full-time, and she is also the mother of two small children,” said Thompson. “Through every challenge, she has worked hard and persevered.”

At the same banquet, Blue Ridge CJC graduate Joreeca Dinnall served as the guest speaker. Dinnall currently serves with the Hendersonville Police Dept., and she received the annual scholarship in 2018.
