To help high school students explore career options, Blue Ridge Community College hosted the 44th Annual Career Day on Friday, Feb. 9, on its Henderson County Campus. Juniors from Henderson County Public Schools took part in the day-long program that included dozens of representatives from professional fields.
North Henderson High School graduate and Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development CEO Brittany Brady began the day with a keynote address. Brady challenged the students to consider who they want to become and what they want to pursue as a career.
Following her address, the students had the opportunity to do just that. More than 35 career professionals across many professional fields met with students and answered their questions. The event helped students to make educated decisions about future careers in fields like automotive technology, business, cosmetology, early childhood education, healthcare, public safety, engineering technology, construction trades, advanced manufacturing, machining and more.
“Blue Ridge is proud to partner with Henderson County Public Schools to showcase the myriad of opportunities awaiting their eleventh-graders,” said Shanda Bedoian, director of corporate and customized training. “Hearing from professionals directly assists students in better understanding career paths that interest them, as well those careers they may never have thought of before. Ultimately, these strategic initiatives boost our community for all.”
Every year, hundreds of area high school students in Henderson and Transylvania counties get a head start on their career paths through Blue Ridge’s Career and College Promise program, which offers multiple tuition-free dual-enrollment opportunities.
Community members and future students can also get an up-close look at Blue Ridge’s facilities and programs through campus tours. Tour sign-up information is available at www.blueridge.edu/tours, and enrollment information is available at www.blueridge.edu/admissions.
