Biscuits, pizza, cupcakes and ice cream provided a tasty backdrop this week for Blue Ridge Community College’s fall 2024 semester. A series of festive Welcome Week events starting Aug. 19 brought students, faculty and staff together between classes to meet one another and learn about valuable college programs and services.
Welcome Week was coordinated and hosted by Blue Ridge’s Student Life department and the Student Government Association (SGA), and it involved multiple events on campuses in Henderson and Transylvania counties, including the Health Sciences Center in Hendersonville.

Welcome Week ‘24
Welcome Week started on Monday with ‘Biscuit Bash’ across all three campuses. SGA leaders and Student Services staff handed out biscuits and answered student questions about the each campus.
‘Cupcakes with Counselors’ provided an opportunity for students to connect with Student Services staff and learn more about how counselors can assist students with academic and personal needs.
Wednesday’s ‘Pizza Party’ included an opportunity to meet Blue Ridge Community College President Dr. Laura Leatherwood and other College leaders. She introduced herself to students as they enjoyed pizza and spent time in the Killian Student Center on the Henderson County Campus.
The final main event of the week, ‘Chill Out,’ cooled students off with a sweet frozen treat.

The Student Government Association will host more events throughout the semester. Keep an eye out at www.blueridge.edu/student-life for upcoming events.
Additionally, all curriculum students who pay an activity fee become SGA members and are welcome and encouraged to attend meetings on the first Thursday of each month.
