Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Alamance Community College sprung into action to gather supplies for hurricane victims.

A few weeks after the storm Alamance employees and volunteers drove more than three hours one way to provide food, water, toiletries, and more to those in need at Blue Ridge Community College.

Katherine Hackney, the Student Government Association Vice President, expressed the importance of giving back as part of the Alamance Otters community.

“It’s good to help people who need it, especially because you never know if you’re going to need it,” Hackney said.

The Alamance Community College Foundation shared on their Facebook page that the ACC Otter community is proud to support others. They also shared a special thanks to Gilbert Umberger, ACC’s Student Life and Engagement Coordinator, who led the charge to organize this effort.

Dr. Scott Queen, Vice President of Economic and Workforce Development for Blue Ridge, has strong roots in the Alamance community. Having lived there for 37 years and worked at their community college for 21 years, he knows their giving spirit well.

“I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to my alma mater for their quick and generous support of our Blue Ridge community,” he said. “We are all family among the Great 58.”
