Blue Ridge Community College proudly celebrated the Fall Class of 2025 on Friday, December 12, recognizing the dedication and perseverance that drive the College’s mission of student success and workforce advancement. In the Blue Ridge Conference Hall in Flat Rock, the College awarded 224 credentials to 196 graduates representing four states and 13 counties within North Carolina.
During her opening remarks on Friday evening, Blue Ridge President Dr. Laura B. Leatherwood praised the graduates for their hard work and determination.
“You possess the qualities that define this college — grit, curiosity, and a steadfast pursuit of excellence,” said Leatherwood. “And while each of you reached this moment through your own hard work, you also did so as part of a community that stands with you and believes in your potential.”
Blue Ridge Community College alumna and structures engineer for RK&K Hannah Hedrick provided the keynote address. Hedrick connected her professional work with bridges to the journeys of life.
“To get to our dreams, we must build a bridge,” said Hedrick. “A bridge is a structure that spans the unknowns and carries the loads in life to get from your starting point to your end goal. Every bridge begins with one choice. The bridge you completed today began when you chose to come to Blue Ridge Community College.”
She continued, “this bridge has taken you from uncertainty to confidence, from doubt to opportunity. And now, as Blue Ridge alumni, you join a larger family of dreamers and doers. The people who are shaping our community, solving problems, and making the world a better place.”
The ceremony concluded after Dr. Leatherwood asked graduates to move their tassels from right to left, a tradition symbolizing a student’s accomplishment of becoming a graduate.
