‘Medicare 101’ Informational Event To Be Held at Blue Ridge Community College Library

Marketing & Communications Dept.

The Blue Ridge Community College Library invites the public to an online and in-person Medicare 101 session with speaker Billie Lister, Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) Western Regional Manager for North Carolina Department of Insurance.

The free event will be held on Aug. 18 from 1 – 3 p.m. on the Henderson County Campus in the library in the Killian Building. Community members may also attend online virtually. Medicare 101 explains many frequently asked questions regarding Medicare, such as when and how to enroll, late enrollment penalties, the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount, and the costs of Medicare.

Lister will cover the ramifications of each Medicare option, when and if selections can be changed, and explain the pros and cons of each Medicare decision as well as how to best handle obstacles when they arise. Fraud and money saving programs will also be discussed.

“Navigating Medicare, especially when new to the process, can feel overwhelming,” said Rachel Quinn, instruction and archives librarian. “Lister is a wealth of information and can help answer your most pressing questions.”

In-person attendance is recommended, and handouts will be provided to attendees. Community members may attend virtually through Zoom, and the session will not be recorded. Virtual attendees must use the appropriate link and passcode to join via Zoom.
