Blue Ridge Horticulture Program to Host Fall Plant Sales on Oct. 3 and 24

Marketing & Communications Dept.

Plant lovers will have two opportunities to shop for locally grown plants from Blue Ridge Community College’s Horticulture Technology program this fall.

The College will host two fall plant sales in October, beginning with a sale at Farm City Day on Saturday, Oct. 3, followed by an on-campus sale at the Henderson County Campus greenhouses on Saturday, Oct. 24.

The first sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during Farm City Day at Jackson Park, 100 Jackson Park Road, Hendersonville. The selection will include mums, pansies, succulents, and fall vegetables.

The second sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Henderson County Campus greenhouses, 245 E. Campus Drive, Flat Rock. Shoppers will find a selection of native perennials, shrubs, trees, vines, and fall annuals.

“All of the plants we offer are grown by our students, giving them valuable experience that extends well beyond the classroom,” said Rachel Meriwether, chair of Blue Ridge’s Horticulture Technology program. “The plant sales allow students to put their horticulture skills into practice while gaining experience with the many aspects of running a plant business and connecting with the community.”

Proceeds from the sales directly support the Horticulture Technology program and its participants, helping provide students with opportunities and resources that complement their classroom and hands-on learning.

“Visiting our college plant sales is a wonderful way to find beautiful, locally grown plants while supporting our students and their education,” said Benjamin Rickert, Blue Ridge’s executive director of marketing and communications. “Every plant you take home is a reflection of the knowledge and skills our students are gaining as they prepare for careers in North Carolina’s green industry. We invite our community to come out and support these students as they grow their futures.”

The Horticulture Technology program at Blue Ridge prepares students for careers in the green industry through classroom instruction and practical experience in plant production, landscaping, plant identification, pest management, soil science and horticulture business operations. Students gain industry relevant, hands-on experience in the College’s on-campus greenhouse facilities in Henderson County.
