The nursing program faculty at Blue Ridge Community College recently received the official letter from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) granting the program initial accreditation status. According to the commission, this achievement proves that a nursing program has a clear and appropriate educational pathway, and it demonstrates commitment to positive outcomes in public health.

With accreditation, graduates of the Blue Ridge nursing program experience ease of credit transfer when pursuing advanced degrees in nursing education. The process, which ensures high quality education, is quickly becoming a standard expectation for nursing programs across the nation.

“Our faculty regularly engage in a systematic plan of evaluation to heighten the educational quality of the institution,” Dr. Amy Szoka, director of nursing for the College. “We are proud to be recognized by ACEN as providing excellence in education for the future nurses in our community.”

On May 8, Blue Ridge celebrated 40 nursing graduates during a traditional pinning ceremony held on the College’s Henderson County Campus.

Blue Ridge will begin accepting applications for Fall 2025 admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program starting Oct 1, 2024. Admissions criteria are available at
