Federal Grants
Federal Grants can be awarded to undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate students. Most are only awarded to students who have a financial need.
- Federal Pell Grants – For undergraduate students with financial need who have not earned a bachelor’s, graduate or professional degree. Participants will need to complete the FAFSA form every year they are in school to remain eligible.
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) – These grants are awarded to undergraduate students who show exceptional financial need. Federal Pell Grant recipients receive priority for this grant. Completion of the FAFSA is required to be considered.
- Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants – For children of parents and guardians that died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after 9/11. Participants must be under 24 or enrolled in college at least part-time at the time of their parent or guardian’s death. Participants will need to complete the FAFSA form every year they are in school to remain eligible.
State Grants
State Grants are state government-funded grants which use the FAFSA to help determine a student’s specific financial needs. These grants are good for helping to fill any gaps that remain after federal assistance aid. These state grants are need-based and available to undergraduate students enrolled without a previous bachelor’s degree. State grants are available to students who have completed the FAFSA and who meet the eligibility requirements.
- NC Community College Grant – This grant is for North Carolina residents with financial need enrolled in an NC Community College.
- NC Education Lottery Scholarship – This grant is for North Carolina residents with financial need enrolled in an NC Community College or one of the UNC system campuses. It is administered by the financial aid offices at the institutions.
Becas
Many organizations offer scholarships based on place of residence, background, professional affiliations and/or field of study. Students should search and apply for outside scholarships independently. If you are offered an outside scholarship you should provide a copy of the offer notice to the Financial Aid Office to ensure that funds are available in a timely manner. Scholarship funds will be equally divided between the fall and spring semesters, unless otherwise requested by the scholarship donor or indicated as a single semester disbursement. Scholarship checks from outside donors should be sent to: Blue Ridge Community College ATTN: Financial Aid Office 180 W. Campus Drive Flat Rock, NC 28731 Applying for scholarships looks and feels a lot like applying for college. The scholarship application process can include many of the same tasks and questions. Make sure to keep essays, letters of recommendation, transcripts, and other important information handy.
