Southeastern Advanced Molding Technology Education Center (SAMTEC)

Through a joint partnership with GF Linamar, GoldenLEAF Foundation, North Carolina Community College System, and Henderson County, Blue Ridge Community College opened its new SAMTEC lab located on the Henderson County Campus in May 2017.

SAMTEC will use the expertise of instructors from several of Blue Ridge Community College’s premier curriculum programs — mechatronics, computer integrated machining, welding, and engineering technology. SAMTEC offers training through continuing education, including both open enrollment short-term classes and customized training for Georg Fisher employees, with plans to develop a full associate degree program in molding technology.

The SAMTEC job training initiative was first designed to meet the training needs of GF Linamar’s new high-pressure die cast facility and other molding technology training shortfalls. The collaboration between GF Linamar and BRCC will allow for this specific training is to be open to all Die Casters. Once fully operational SAMTEC will train in HPIDC and Plastic Molding disciplines.

GF Linamar’s facility will specialize in high-pressure die casting to produce light-weight aluminum and magnesium parts for power train driveline and structural components. This venture will provide essential job training for hundreds of students to the region with an average annual salary estimated at $47,013.

Currently, the southeast region of the United States is home to 25 die cast manufacturers and a wide variety of manufacturers using plastic molding processes. SAMTEC provides quality workforce training in high-pressure die cast of aluminum parts as well as training in the production of plastic molding processes.

SAMTEC will also support the training needs of other area companies with plastic manufacturing processes. These companies include Elkamet Inc., B.I.G. Adventures, Continental Automotive Systems, Meritor Inc., Raumedic and Lassonde Pappas.
