Course Description:

This course is geared towards individuals currently working in a pharmacy technician role who would like to prepare for certification. Learn the technical procedures for preparing and dispensing drugs in the hospital and retail settings under supervision of a registered pharmacist. You will gain an understanding about drug packaging and labeling, outpatient dispensing, hospital dispensing procedures, controlled substance procedures, inventory control, and non-sterile compounding. Upon completion, you should be able to perform basic supervised dispensing techniques in a variety of pharmacy settings. You will also be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Certification Exam. You must be 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED to enroll in this course.

Students enrolling in this Pharmacy Technician course without clinical must be currently employed as a Pharmacy Technician; otherwise, they will need to register for the Pharmacy Technician course with clinical to obtain the hands-on skills training.

Enrollment requirements:

1. The student must be 18 years old.

2. IDs required on the first day of class (names must match on both):

a. A Signed Social Security Card (paper card, non-laminated), or letter from Social Security Office stating that card has been requested.

b. Current Driver’s License or government-issued picture ID.

c. High school diploma or GED.

d. The student must provide a letter from an employer stating that they currently work as a pharmacy technician.  The letter must be documented on the employer’s letterhead.

3. You will register for the course when you view the course schedule below.

4. A statement will be signed the first day of class to confirm that the student received and reviewed the Student Handbook.
