Lisa Adkins, a local woman with an extensive background in education and fundraising, was recently hired as the new Vice President of Advancement at Blue Ridge Community College.

Blue Ridge President Dr. Laura Leatherwood expressed her excitement at hiring Adkins.

“Lisa Adkins is going to be a phenomenal addition to our team here at Blue Ridge Community College. We’ve got the best faculty and staff in the region, and I know Lisa will only add to the quality of our college,” Leatherwood said.

Adkins comes to Blue Ridge as the former Executive Director at the Buncombe County Schools Foundation in Asheville; a role she started in 2010. While there, she formulated strategic plans to increase financial performance and improve infrastructure for a $4.9 million public school foundation. She also served as a spokesperson in the community and engaged in advocacy with legislators and policy organizations.

Prior to this, Adkins worked as the Director of Marketing and Financial Development for the YMCA of Western North Carolina from 2004-2007. Here, she directed all fundraising, communications and marketing for a $9.5 million YMCA association covering multiple branches in Buncombe, Henderson and McDowell Counties, including all major and planned gifts.

She’s also worked as the Corporate and Major Gifts Officer for the Pardee Hospital Foundation in Hendersonville; Director of Development at the Indiana Humanities Council in Indianapolis; and Development Director for Ballet Internationale in Indianapolis.

In addition to her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from Texas A&M University, Adkins also holds a Certificate in Fund Raising Management (CFRM) from the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. She is currently in the process of earning her Master of Liberal Studies from East Tennessee State University.

“Blue Ridge Community College’s dedication to empowering its students and enriching its community is a mission in which I strongly believe. I am honored and excited to have been selected for this position,” Adkins said.

Aside from her academic degrees and achievements, Adkins has also won a number of awards, including the Outstanding Nonprofit Executive Award from the Asheville Chamber of Commerce, and the Education Leadership Spotlight from the North Carolina Public School Forum.

As Vice President of Advancement, Adkins will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive institutional advancement plan, which requires managing, coordinating and directing the College’s Educational Foundation, Marketing and Communications Department and the College’s external affairs.

“I look forward to continuing the amazing work this college is already doing in Henderson and Transylvania Counties,” she added.
