Carolina Textile District Industrial Sewing Program

The Carolina Textile District Industrial Sewing Program prepares trainees for a career in the sewn trades – an industry that has a rich tradition in the region and is experiencing a resurgence. Sewing technicians are in HIGH demand. This fun course is hands-on and project-based. No prior sewing experience is needed. Learn how to use industrial sewing machines in three weeks!

In addition to course instruction, students will also tour area manufacturers – giving a glimpse into opportunities in the region for creative and hands-on careers in the textile industry.

  • Textile Construction & Reading Tech Packs
  • Tools & Materials
  • Instruction on three Industrial Sewing Machines
    • Single Needle Lockstitch
    • Serger
    • Coverstitch 
  • Seams & Stitches
  • Zippers
  • Finishing Techniques
  • Production Flow & Quality Control
  • Workers Rights & Responsibilities
  • Ergonomics & Safety

Industrial Sewing Technicians can earn:

  • $15+/hour starting wage
  • $20+/hour for experienced sewers

Carolina Textile District Network (CTD) Employers:

  • 15 local employers – (within 10-20 miles)
  • 25 employers in our Carolina Textile District Network across North Carolina
