Why Choose an Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to earn while you learn, partnering you with both an employer, who provides on-the-job training, and our classroom instruction, allowing you to:

  • Earn competitive wages while you train
  • Gain valuable work experience with a local employer
  • Develop high demand technical and professional skills
  • Prepare for long term career success

Why Blue Ridge Community College?

Blue Ridge Community College sponsors apprenticeship pathways registered with the North Carolina Department of Labor, connecting students with employers across Western North Carolina. Classroom instruction is built into your work week, allowing you to continue earning a paycheck while progressing toward apprenticeship completion.

Blue Ridge Community College’s commitment to apprenticeship and workforce development has been recognized by regional and national organizations.

How It Works

Apprenticeship Blue Ridge helps eligible students prepare for employment, connect with participating employers, and begin paid on-the-job training alongside related classroom instruction.

  1. Find the Right Opportunity

Explore the apprenticeship pathways currently accepting applications and review the program information, qualifications, and expectations.

  2. Submit Your Application

Complete the apprenticeship application for your chosen pathway. The Apprenticeship Blue Ridge team will review your information and contact you about next steps.

  3. Prepare to Meet Employers

Qualified applicants receive guidance from the apprenticeship team and NCWorks to prepare résumés, practice interviewing, and get ready to meet participating employers.

  4. Participate in Draft Day

During Draft Day, participating employers meet with apprenticeship candidates, conduct interviews, and select applicants for available employment opportunities.

  5. Begin Your Apprenticeship

Selected apprentices begin paid employment and on-the-job training while completing the required classroom instruction through Blue Ridge Community College.

Pathways to Apprenticeship for High School Students

A pre-apprenticeship is a structured training program that prepares someone to enter a registered apprenticeship. It is designed for people who have little or no experience in an industry and need foundational skills before being hired as an apprentice. The programs below can help eligible high school students or recent graduates prepare for future opportunities. Eligibility, schedules, and application periods vary by program.

Already Employed in Machining or Industrial Systems?
