Pottery Course Descriptions
Exploring Clay I – Pottery
Learn how to express your creative visions through working with clay. Whether your skills are at the beginner, intermediate, or advanced level, you will gain tips and techniques to help you develop your skills. Our small classes allow time for individual and group instruction. You will learn skills from the basics of throwing, hand-building, glaze applications and firing, refining skills as well as learning new techniques. Clay is available for purchase at the College Bookstore.
Exploring Clay II – Pottery
Take your pottery skills to the next level. If you have some experience with clay, either hand building or potter’s wheel, this course is for you. Guidance and instruction will be provided at your skill level. Class time will allow for independent work or structured assignments based on your interest. Clay is available for purchase at the College Bookstore. You will also be required to provide your own tools.
Intro to the Pottery Wheel
Learn the basics of the pottery wheel and ceramic processes to make all kinds of pots. You gain experience in wheel techniques, trimming, refining and glazing techniques. You will also have the opportunity to make one of a kind pottery pots in this fun course. Registration fee includes one block of clay and shelf space until pieces are complete. There will be community tools available for use during the course.
Pottery: Beginner/Intermediate
Continue exploring and expanding your knowledge and skills to the next level in this guided instruction course. You will learn new hand building techniques, trimming, refining and glazing techniques. Upon completion of this course, you will have created several pieces to take home with you. Registration fee includes one block of clay and shelf space until pieces are complete. There will be community tools available for use during the course.
Sculpting Animals in Clay
Become familiar with the properties of clay and the necessary tools used to create animal sculptures. You will also learn about firing and finishing the sculptures with paint. Registration fee includes the cost of materials for this class.
Human Head Clay Sculpting
Learn the fundamentals of sculpting the human head. You will learn ways to prepare an armature, how to build form and mold features, examining all the planes and nuances the human head possesses. You will be encouraged to contemplate how to expressively complete your sculpture as a finished piece. Registration fee includes the cost of materials for this class.
