This collection is comprised of an 1879 edition fifth year reader from the McGuffey series 1879 edition and one torn page from the fourth year reader.

Biographical History

The Eclectic Readers, commonly known as McGuffey’s Readers, were a series of grade school primers used widely across the United States during the 19th century. They were created and edited by William Holmes McGuffey and Alexander Hamilton McGuffey. The primers were originally published in the 1830s with a revised edition printed in 1879.
