seedling plant growing outside in the sunshine and soil

A seed library is a community resource usually found at libraries or community centers. The seeds are free and the seed library is open to the public. We are interested in supporting community members in their efforts to start a garden and grow some of their own food and in developing a network of seed savers, to create locally adapted varieties and to preserve genetic diversity. Seed saving is something humans have done for over 10,000 years! We are hoping that as we get going, members of the school community and the wider community will come and check out seeds to use in their gardens or start their gardens! Donations of seeds — store-bought or collected from folks’ gardens — are welcome and encouraged!

How it works

  1. Fill out a membership form.
  2. Select the seeds you’d like to borrow, a few, not all.
  3. Put them in an envelope.
  4. Record that on your membership form.
  5. Take your new seeds home and plant them!
  6. At the end of the season, collect seed to return to the Seed Library.
