Silent Book Club

Bring your own book and enjoy an hour of quiet reading alongside other members of the Blue Ridge community. There are no assigned readings, no required discussions, and no pressure to finish a particular book.

Read Together — At Your Own Pace

The Silent Book Club at Blue Ridge Community College Library, a chapter of the Silent Book Club® offers a relaxed alternative to a traditional book club. Instead of reading an assigned title, participants bring whatever they are currently reading and spend dedicated time reading together.

Printed books, ebooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, textbooks, and other reading formats are all welcome. After the quiet reading time, participants may stay and socialize or simply continue reading.

Silent Book Club® is a global community of readers, with more than 2000 chapters in 60+ countries.

Fall 2026 Meetings

Join Silent Book Club every other Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. Bring whatever you are currently reading and enjoy dedicated reading time alongside other members of the Blue Ridge community.

Meeting Location

Silent Book Club meets in the Henderson County Campus Library, located in the Killian Building.

A typical SBC meetup in our library will look like this:

  • 12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. — People arrive, grab a snack from the cafe, warm up their lunch, and get settled
  • 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. — Quiet reading hour
  • 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. — Optional socializing, or head back to the office/class

When the weather is pleasant, attendees will vote at the beginning of the meeting on whether to remain inside or read outdoors. If the group chooses to meet outside, the club will move to the picnic tables and amphitheater behind the Killian Building.
