This fall, the Veterans Club of Blue Ridge Community College received a generous $2,600 donation from Sideways Farm & Brewery in Etowah. The donation will allow the club to hold local gatherings for veterans, participate in veteran scholastic events and conferences, and collaborate with non-profit veteran organizations.
“Sideways is strongly committed to caring for the community, from buying local ingredients, restoring soils and donating 100% of their tips to help local organizations to improve the lives of others,” said Carol Wheeler, Veterans Club advisor and Blue Ridge instructor of mechanical engineering.
Throughout the month of September, Veterans Club members spent their weekends helping out at the farm as part of the Sideways’ “Tip Our Community” program. As a result, all tips from patrons were donated to the club. Leaders of the club, College, and farm gathered in November for a formal presentation of the gift involving a playful, oversized check.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to share the club’s mission and goals with the local community and for our veterans to swap stories and interact with the Sideways Farm & Brewery customers,” Wheeler added.
