In case of a hostile intruder such as an active shooter, Blue Ridge Community College has adopted the Run-Hide-Fight procedure recommended by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Below is a summary of how Run-Hide-Fight can prepare you to respond to a threatening situation.
Run
- Evacuating the area is the first and best action to take if possible.
- Have a plan in place.
- Evacuate whether others do or not.
- Warn and help others evacuate if possible.
- Leave belongings behind.
- Call 9-1-1 when it is safe to do so.
Hide
- If evacuation is not an option, hide in an area that is out of sight of attacker.
- Lock and barricade door(s) with anything available to you.
- Silence cellphones immediately.
- Remain as silent as possible.
- Look for items that can protect you from gunfire.
- Ensure you leave options for escape open.
Fight
- This is the last resort and when life is in danger.
- Fight back with a group mentality.
- Look for weapons that can be used against the attacker(s).
- Be direct and aggressive with your actions.
- Fully commit to the action you are taking, it could save your life and others.

Parking Decals
Students and employees must display a valid parking decal when parked on campus. There is no cost for these decals, and decals must be displayed on the driver side, rear window, or bumper. If you have multiple vehicles, please acquire decals for each of your vehicles. Registering for a decal will require knowledge of the make, model and license plate number of your vehicle.
Students may obtain parking decals from the Henderson County Campus’ Bookstore located in the William D. Killian Building or from the resource officer of the Transylvania County Campus. Health Sciences Center students may obtain a parking decal from either the Henderson or Transylvania County campuses. Students can also call Student Services for assistance at (828) 694-1800.
Employees may obtain parking decals from the Human Resources Department, located in the Patton Building of the Henderson County Campus.
Accessible Parking
Temporary accessible parking space decals, valid only on campus with Blue Ridge Community College Police and Public Safety, may be obtained from the Police and Public Safety Department.
Parking and Traffic Enforcement
Blue Ridge Community College Police Officers and Public Safety personnel enforce the parking rules, issue citations for traffic offenses, and work motor vehicle accidents on Blue Ridge Community College campuses. Other State and local law enforcement agencies will also prosecute for violations of applicable laws on campus and assist with reports and enforcement when necessary. Employees, students and visitors are asked to park in designated parking places, obey posted parking and traffic signs, and observe flow-of-traffic arrows and “stop” markings painted on paved roads and lots.
Campus officers may issue citations for the following parking and traffic offenses:
Parking in Unauthorized Areas including accessible parking spaces and fire lanes
Reckless driving
Speeding
Failure to yield to pedestrian
In emergency situations and repeat offenses, illegally parked vehicles may be towed at the expense of the owner.
Flag Alerts on Campus
The Blue Ridge Community College Police Dept. maintains our College’s outdoor U.S. and North Carolina flags, including any flag alerts ordered by governing authorities. Community members may view the current flag alert status posted by the NC Dept. of Administration, or sign up for emailed flag alert updates.

If you have information regarding a campus crime or safety issue, we encourage you to report information to the Blue Ridge Community College Police Department using this online form. Providing your contact information is optional.
Consider reporting information about the following:
- a crime or violation that has occurred on campus
- evidence of suspicious activity on campus
- individuals on campus who appear to be a danger to themselves or to others
Your tip will go directly to the Blue Ridge Community College Chief of Police.

This process is overseen by the Behavioral Assessment Team which provides a cross-functional, multidisciplinary point of contact for members of the college community who have encountered student behavior, which they perceive as unusual, threatening, or dangerous.

Annual Security Report
Blue Ridge Community College is responsible for preparing and distributing an Annual Security Report to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).
The Annual Security Report is published every year by October 1 and contains three years of selected campus crime statistics and certain campus security policy statements in accordance with the Clery Act.
