Blue Ridge Alert: Emergency Notifications

Blue Ridge Community College is committed to providing timely information to our community in case of an emergency or weather event that affects safe campus operations. As part of the College’s emergency preparedness plan, the Blue Ridge Alert notification system can quickly notify students, employees and community members of campus closures and delays, severe weather, safety or security concerns, and emergency instructions via SMS text messaging and other channels.

All community members – particularly those present on our three campuses in Henderson and Transylvania counties – are strongly encouraged to sign up for Blue Ridge Alert text notifications. In the event of a campus emergency, it is vital that Blue Ridge Community College is able to contact you as quickly as possible.

To sign up for text alerts:

From your mobile device, simply text the phrase “alertme” to the number 67283.

Inclement Weather Closings or Delays

The safety of our students, employees and visitors is the highest priority when deciding if Blue Ridge Community College’s campuses must be closed or delayed due to weather conditions. This decision will be made as early as possible.

During inclement weather, students and employees must use their best judgment as to whether they can safely travel on roadways near their homes that may contain snow, ice or other hazards. Please remember that in our mountainous terrain, road conditions can vary greatly within a short distance.

In case of a planned absence due to unsafe travel conditions, the College asks that employees notify their supervisor and students notify their instructors. Faculty should also communicate any scheduling or operational changes to their students. Students should check their email and any notifications that may be posted in myCourses.
