Commencement is a long-awaited celebration of your successful academic accomplishments. It is also recognition of a part of your life that is about to begin. Our commencement exercises at Blue Ridge Community College are a special occasion that we all look forward to sharing with you and your friends and family. It is a time to honor you, the hard work and dedication you put forward in achieving your degree.

Application for Graduation
Candidates for graduation should apply to the Registrar's Office for their degree, diploma, or certificate during registration for their last semester of enrollment.
Thursday, December 13 at 3 p.m.
A required rehearsal for the commencement ceremony will be held in the Blue Ridge Conference Hall in the Technology Education and Development Center (TEDC). Caps and gowns are not required for rehearsal.
Friday, December 14 at 6 p.m.
Doors will open for ticketed guests at 4:30 p.m.
On Friday, December 14, graduates must be on the Second Floor of the Technology Education and Development Center (TEDC) by no later than 5:15 p.m. to line up for the ceremony. Name cards will be passed out at this time. Please secure personal belongings before the ceremony. There will be no place to leave personal belongings (i.e., purses and jackets) on campus during graduation. Ticketed guests may continue on to the Conference Hall and find a seat. They will not be allowed to accompany graduates during the lineup.
Important Ticket and Seating Information
A maximum of six guest tickets will be provided for each graduate.
Tickets may be picked up by graduates only between November 26 and December 6 at the following locations:
Henderson County Campus:
Registrar’s Office in the Sink Building
Transylvania County Campus:
Student Welcome Center in the Straus Building
Distance Learning students that cannot pick up tickets between November 26-December 6 in person must send an email to the Registrar’s Office at email@example.com to secure tickets.
Persons picking up tickets on behalf of the graduate must present a signed note of permission from the graduate, along with photo identification, in order to obtain tickets.
After December 6, any remaining tickets will be considered extra tickets, available at rehearsal on December 13, on a first-come, first served basis. Tickets will expire at 5:45 p.m. on December 14. Overflow seating will be available in the Thomas Auditorium in the Sink Building. Tickets are for ages two years old and up; only one ticket may be used per person.
Caps and Gowns
Beginning November 1, students may purchase caps, gowns, and invitations from the College Bookstore located in the Killian Building. Distance Learning students may order caps, gowns, and invitations by contacting the Bookstore at (828) 694-1720.
Also beginning November 1, a limited supply of caps and gowns will be available with the Registrar’s Office on a first-come, first served basis. These caps and gowns are loaned for free to students with a financial need but must be returned to the Registrar’s Office staff at the end of the evening of the Commencement ceremony. If the borrowed cap and gown are not returned, Blue Ridge Community College reserves the right to withhold the graduate’s diploma and all future transcripts from being released until the cap and gown are returned or replaced. The student is responsible for purchasing the tassel, which is available through the College Bookstore.
All graduates will have an opportunity immediately following the ceremony to donate your cap and gown to a future Blue Ridge Community College graduate with financial need.
Honor society members (Phi Theta Kappa and National Technical Honor Society) are welcome to wear the honor society regalia of their choice but may wear only one tassel during graduation. Please make your purchases using the honor society website(s): www.ptk.org or www.nths.org. Please place an order in time to allow for arrival well before December 14.
Graduation Ceremony Etiquette
No cell phone use or noisemakers are allowed during graduation. Families deserve to honor and hear the names of each graduate for this occasion.
Graduates must pay all fines and fees, return all library books, and meet any other College obligations prior to graduation. If in doubt, please check with the following to see if there are any outstanding obligations that need your attention.

Procedure for Awarding of Degrees
As you approach the stage, you will give your name card to the appropriate Marshal standing at the bottom of the stairs. When your name is called, you will walk across the stage and shake hands with the College President. You will then shake hands with a College Trustee, where you will also receive your diploma cover.
Degrees can be picked up immediately following the ceremony in the Gallery of the Thomas Auditorium, located in the Sink Building. Graduates who do not attend the graduation ceremony may pick up their diploma at the Registrar’s Office the week following the ceremony.
On Graduation Day, graduates are to park at the front of the Sink Building, which can be accessed at Eagle’s Reach Drive. Overflow parking will be in the Patton Parking Lot. Guest parking will begin in the parking lot above the Industrial Skills Center via Duck Pond Drive. Additional parking will be available in the Patton Parking Lot at the corner of College Drive and Airport Road. Handicap accessible parking areas will be marked on campus. Shuttle vans will be available to assist guests from the Patton Parking Lot.
Family and guests who require assistance due to mobility challenges are asked to turn left off the East Campus Drive entrance into the turnabout area near the Blue Ridge Conference Hall. Please display your state-issued handicapped placard before you arrive on campus. Family and guests can unload for level access to the building without having to navigate stairs or elevators.
Wheelchairs will be available for persons needing assistance to the Conference Hall. These wheelchairs are used to assist persons to and from the Conference Hall only. Persons needing a wheelchair for the entire commencement event will need to bring a personal wheelchair.
If you are a person who requires interpreting services due to a hearing impairment, please be advised that our commencement ceremony will be interpreted.
