Central Sterile Processing

Central sterile processing technicians clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments used in operating rooms and other healthcare settings. They identify instruments, operate washers and sterilization equipment, and help ensure surgical teams have safe, properly prepared equipment for patient care.

The Central Sterile Processing Apprenticeship program allows eligible high school graduates and adult learners to earn while you learn in the classroom and on the job. The program is a collaborative effort of Blue Ridge Community College, Henderson County Public SchoolsTransylvania County SchoolsHenderson County Homeschool Association, and AdventHealth Hendersonville.

The Central Sterile Processing Apprenticeship Program is a registered North Carolina Apprenticeship with the N.C. Department of Labor.

Program Description

Length of Program: One year. 2-3 semesters. 2,000 hours of on-the-job training.
Eligibility: Recent high school graduates and adult learners.
Tuition: Tuition waivers are available for eligible, recent high school graduates, and financial aid may be available for those who qualify. Plus, you’ll earn a paycheck while attending class through your apprenticeship.
Starting Pay: $16.00. Periodic increases.
Pay After Completion: $18.00.
Schedule: Class one day a week. Work the remainder of the week with AdventHealth Hendersonville.
Class Hours: Minimum 144. Once completed, an apprentice will be eligible to become a Certified Sterile Processing Technician through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA).

Community Health Worker

Community Health Workers help individuals and families connect with healthcare, social services, and other community resources. Because they understand and are trusted by the communities they serve, they can help people navigate services, provide health education and outreach, offer social support, and advocate for improved access to care.

The Community Health Worker Apprenticeship program is a collaborative effort of Blue Ridge Community College, Henderson County Public SchoolsTransylvania County SchoolsHenderson County Homeschool Association, and Blue Ridge Community Health.

The Community Health Worker Apprenticeship Program is a registered North Carolina Apprenticeship with the N.C. Department of Labor. This is an incumbent-only program in partnership with Blue Ridge Health.

Program Description

Length of Program: One year. Two semesters. 2,000 hours of on-the-job training.
Eligibility: Incumbent workers in the Community Health Worker field.
Tuition: Tuition waivers are available for eligible, recent high school graduates, and financial aid may be available for those who qualify. Plus, you’ll earn a paycheck while attending class through your apprenticeship.
Schedule: Class one day a week. Work the remainder of the week.
Class Hours: Minimum 144. Once completed, an apprentice will be eligible to become Certified Community Health Workers via the North Carolina Community Health Worker Association (NCCHWA).
