Blue Ridge Community College is pleased to announce that all campuses will reopen for instruction on Monday, October 14, 2024. After more than two-weeks of closure due to the widespread and devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene, the college is ready to welcome students, employees and community members back to its campuses in Henderson and Transylvania counties.
“The effects of the hurricane on the people of our community cannot be overstated, and our top priority throughout this process has been the safety and well-being of our students, employees, and community,” said Blue Ridge President Dr. Laura B. Leatherwood. “As we move forward to reopen on Monday, we are focused on helping students return to their studies with as much support and flexibility as possible, knowing that many are still personally dealing with the storm’s aftermath.”
As part of the College’s continued commitment to its community, Blue Ridge has been working diligently to clear fallen trees, repair storm damage, and restore essential services across its facilities. Some campus facilities are currently supporting emergency responders, and the college is proud to contribute to recovery efforts while preparing to resume classes.
In addition to normal in-person and online class schedules, Blue Ridge will offer extended hours for tutoring services and library access to provide additional academic support as students adjust to the revised calendar. Detailed information, including academic schedules and student resources, can be found on the college’s Hurricane Helene Recovery webpage at www.blueridge.edu/alert/helene. The current college status and safety information are available at www.blueridge.edu/alert.
Students are encouraged to monitor their college email and course management systems for specific instructions from instructors and to reach out to instructors if they have concerns about their return to campus.
Blue Ridge Community College’s Educational Foundation continues its efforts to support students facing housing, food, water and other basic needs due to the storm’s impact. Donations to support recovery efforts can be made at www.blueridge.edu/foundation.
