Nathan Gulick recently turned 21 years old but has already served in public safety for several years. Now he has graduated with an Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Science with Paramedicine.
As a high schooler, Gulick volunteered with his local fire department. Later on, after his grandmother needed to go to hospital, Gulick met some of the Henderson County Rescue Squad and became a volunteer with the organization.
The Squad helped put him through the Emergency Medical Technician program at Blue Ridge Community College, but he didn’t want to stop there.
“Watching people save a life with intervention makes you want to do more,” Gulick said.
He joined the paramedic program and even became an adjunct instructor while finishing his degree.
Gulick encouraged those interested in public safety to get involved with an agency in the area.
“They can help financially with continuing education, but it also builds the relationships,” he said. “It’s not just the College trying to help you succeed then, but also the support of the agency and the entire community.”
