The Blue Ridge Community College Library invites the public to celebrate Preservation Week on campus this April 14 – 16, 2026. The planned festivities on two campuses include documentary showings, live theatre, and two local history fairs.
The week’s celebrations kick off on Tuesday April 14 on the Henderson County Campus (HCC) with a truncated performance of “The Many Lives of Carl Sandburg.” Blue Ridge Community College Library Instruction and Archives Librarian Rachel Quinn said the 30-minute performance mixes in songs and poetry from Sandburg.
“It’s an introduction to Carl Sandburg for people that aren’t familiar with his work or life story,” Quinn said. “There will also be a Question and Answer session after the performance.”
On Wednesday April 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., the Henderson and Transylvania County Campus (TCC) Libraries will host their respective Local History Fairs. The Henderson County Campus event will be held in the Technology, Education, and Development Center’s (TEDC) Blue Ridge Conference Hall The Transylvania County Campus event will be held off-campus at the Mary C. Jenkins Community and Cultural Center.
On the Transylvania County Campus, the week will end with a showing of “Color Beyond the Lines,” the local documentary from David Weintraub and the Center for Cultural Preservation. The film will be shown April 16 from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. in Room 116 of the Straus Building.
The Henderson County Campus will show two movies between noon and 3:30 p.m. on April 16. Both movies, “Beam Me Up, Sulu” and “Horatio’s Drive: America’s First Road Trip,” will be shown from 12 – 3:30 p.m. in the HCC library.
