HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – Blue Ridge Community College’s popular annual plant sale will return on April 18 and 19, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day in the greenhouses of the College’s Henderson County Campus.
The two-day event invites plant enthusiasts from across Western North Carolina to browse and purchase a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, ornamentals, hanging baskets, perennials, native trees and shrubs, as well as a stunning selection of succulents and houseplants, all grown by students in the College’s horticulture program.
“All plants are student grown, and proceeds from the sale directly benefit the horticulture program and its participants,” said Rachel Meriwether, horticulture department chair. “This event provides our students with valuable hands-on experience in plant production and sales while preparing them for careers in the green industry. It’s also such an incredible way for them to showcase all of their hard work and skill to the community.”
Blue Ridge’s horticulture program equips students with practical skills in plant science, sustainable production, landscape management, greenhouse operations, and horticulture business practices through classroom instruction and hands-on training in the College’s greenhouse facilities.
As agriculture remains North Carolina’s No. 1 industry and a vital part of Western North Carolina’s workforce, graduates are prepared for careers in nurseries, garden centers, landscape and turf operations, parks and governmental agencies, and private or public gardens. Students may also pursue industry credentials such as the North Carolina Pesticide Applicator and Certified Plant Professional certifications.
“This sale is one of the most rewarding parts of our program,” explained horticulture student Tana Black-Michalski. “It’s so exciting to grow these plants from seed, and then be able to share them with our community. It really brings our classroom learning to life.”
The plant sale is open to the public, and all forms of payment are accepted. All proceeds benefit the horticulture programs of Blue Ridge Community College.
The plant sale will take place in the greenhouses located at 245 E. Campus Drive in Flat Rock.
