In a few days, Emma Evans will graduate from Blue Ridge Community College, and embark on a new chapter of her path in higher education. Evans said Blue Ridge was crucial to figuring out her career path. After finishing high school, Evans was excited to attend college but, like many of her peers, wasn’t sure what path to take. Discussion with Marcus Roberson, Blue Ridge Community College’s career coach at West Henderson High School, led Evans to realize Blue Ridge was a good option for her, especially in class size and location.
While studying at Blue Ridge, Evans decided to pursue the study of communications.
“I liked public speaking in high school and really enjoyed my communications classes here as well,” Evans said. “I’m very creative, and so I’m excited about a career where I’m able to be creative in a space that allows work connection and communication.”
Evans also got to exercise those skills in her time as a Student Government Association Student Ambassador. Student Ambassadors serve as the face of the student body to the local community, and participate in public relations and recruiting activities for Blue Ridge Community College.
“It was a great opportunity to do something that matters here on campus, something that helps my friends and peers,” Evans said.
Evans will graduate on May 9 from Blue Ridge with her Associate in Arts transfer degree. In the fall, she will transfer to Clemson University’s communications track. For maximal growth opportunities, Evans recommended starting at Blue Ridge before transferring to a four-year school.
“I would say Blue Ridge is a great place for anyone who doesn’t know exactly what to study but wants to begin higher education or work for preparation right after high school,” Evans said. “Blue Ridge is a great place to be because you’re saving money, and you’re still getting classes that transfer. The College also has so many connections with North Carolina schools so this is a great place to start.”
